The People

Psalm One Macaroni & Cheese
2006

The people are hurting and unemployed. The people in Chicago are around about 35 percent black yet they are the majority of recorded perpetrators of crimes committed in Chicago. The people are diverse in their talents, ideas, and ambitions, and lives. No hood, neighborhood, or side of Chicago is the same. The people are who created this exhibit from content to the people studied. The people are resilient and protective of their city. Throughout this collection the voice of the People who took to rhymes and beats to tell share their story will be laid out for you to listen.  Below is a report on unemployment to begin if you are curious about the depths of difference between the lives of different people in the city. More examples are displayed throughout matched with songs with thematic similarities. Think of these relationships as micro and macro views in that the rappers are talking about their micro experiences while the maps, statistics, and graphs give a more macro or generalized view of the issues.

(Note) Disproportionately left out of this exhibit are white rappers from Chicago while there was a concentrated effort to include female rappers from Chicago in this.
